CIVIC ACCELERATOR NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Civic Accelerator, a joint venture between Points of Light and Village Capital, is a twelve-week accelerator program for the most promising Civic Ventures, or enterprises that put people at the center of social change.  You’ll join a group of like-minded peers, get expert coaching on how to build your company, and build a network of investors and strategic partners that can scale your innovation.  Each team accepted will receive a $10K investment and at the end of the program, two teams will receive a $50,000 investment with a twist -- you, the entrepreneurs, will decide who gets funded!  Learn more here: www.pointsoflight.org/civic-accelerator.

HOW VISTA MEMBERS CAN UTILIZE NON COMPETITIVE ELIGIBILITY

If you served in or are currently serving in AmeriCorps VISTA, you may have heard about Non Competitive Eligibility (NCE), but may not be sure how to use it to land a job with the federal government.  NCE is a hiring status granted to AmeriCorps VISTA members for one year upon succesful completion of a VISTA term, and can help you in your job search in life after VISTA.  First, it can open the door to federal positions not available to the general public, and second, it can help you secure a federal position in less time than the traditional process.  Here are a few key points to consider:

     • NCE allows you to compete in a smaller pool of applicants, increasing your chances of being hired
     • NCE permits a federal agency to hire a former VISTA without going through a formal review process, which decreases the time required for The interview to hire process
     • You gain NCE status only after succesful completion of a year of service, and it lasts for a period of one year

For more in-depth information about NCE, please click here (choose "enter as a guest" once redirected).
