The OneStar Foundation Leaders for Life Summit, a leadership development program for national service members and alumni, is an investment in building a cadre of leaders who are committed and equipped for a lifetime of civic engagement.

The focus of this year's intensive two-day summit is disaster preparedness. All participants will be trained on the basic elements of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) curriculum. This training teaches the basic concepts, principles, terminology and organizational processes to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from domestic incidents.

Participants will also self-select one of two “train the trainer” sessions:

  • Personal Preparedness – to assist families and individuals in their communities to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property
  • Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP)– to assist organizations in their communities to develop, practice, and maintain plans that reflect what must be done to continue normal business operations in the event of an emergency.

“Train the trainer” sessions are specifically designed for participants who will become facilitators of these topics in their own communities.

  • Provide high quality professional development opportunity for members and alumni
  • Registration is limited. 
  • Registration is only open to current AmeriCorps*State/National Direct members and alumni living in Texas.
  • AmeriCorps*Texas programs can nominate 1 current member or alumni.
  • Alumni committed to utilizing skills and resources from the summit in their own communities will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
