Throughout his life, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. advocated peace, unity, and was committed to creating change in his community. On Saturday January 14, 2006, as a part of a city-wide weekend celebration, Make A Difference and The Volunteer Center of Maricopa County will honor Dr. King’s powerful message by engaging Valley residents in Phoenix’s 7th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This year’s event will provide participating volunteers with meaningful “family-friendly” service learning experiences while meeting critical community needs at local nonprofits and low-income schools.

Alums are needed to work alongside students from Carl Hayden High School, families from Carl Hayden Community Center, and employees from Desert Schools Federal Credit Union to liven up the high school campus and surrounding neighborhood with a fresh coat of paint and a clean-up.  Volunteers will be doing various painting projects throughout the campus as well as removing graffiti and debris from the neighborhood with the City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department.  For more information visit www.makeadifference.org.  Directions, parking details and more will be sent upon registration.
