Communicating through Conflict
Handling problems arising out of differences--in opinions, work styles, personalities, beliefs or even visions for the future--is not easy under any circumstances. Most of us find it very difficult to talk through such problems, especially when emotions are high. In addition, the different ways we approach (or avoid) conflict may not be compatible.
This workshop will help you assess your own comfort level with interpersonal conflict and will introduce some communication tools for handling difficult conversations. You’ll learn how to:
§ Recognize the signs that a conversation is becoming difficult
§ Manage your own emotions
§ Help people feel safe in discussing difficult issues
§ Start a difficult conversation and keep the other person in dialogue
After exploring these concepts and tools, you will have an opportunity to practice the skills that help people communicate through conflict and reach positive outcomes. Expect a highly-interactive, useful skill-building experience.
