Thanks so much for your interest in participating in the Colorado AmeriCorps Alums Chapter Service Week in NOLA!!
CAAC will be volunteering with Hands On Network and the First Street United Methodist Church in Uptown New Orleans. HON
will be arranging the projects for us as well as providing meals and lodging at no cost.
This is a communal living situation and all volunteers are expected to participate in general housekeeping and food preparation as part of their stay.
We will be traveling to NOLA by plane and at this point the cost of the ticket is the responsibility of each volunteer. Alums is providing our chapter with $500 toward the overall travel expenses. We are coordinating additional fundraising efforts for those who are in need of additional financial assistance in order to participate. Stay tuned for more information!
Currently there are a few different projects volunteers may take part in: Interior Work (gutting homes), Mold Work (removing mold), Debris Removal, Tool Bank Coordination and Community Outreach Work (schools, distribution centers, meals, beautification). HON makes every effort to provide accommodations for volunteers with special needs.
The goals of this service week are to highlight the continued impact of Alums well beyond their terms of service, continue to promote the disaster response efforts of NCCC in the push to restore funding to this AmeriCorps program, and to empower Alums to understand the devastation that occurred throughout the Gulf and carry that knowledge back with them for utilization in their own local communities.
We appreciate your energy, enthusiasm and desire to take part in this recovery effort and recognize your efforts toward leading a lifetime of service! Thank you!
