Metro Atlanta Chapter of AmeriCorps Alums: Atlanta Community Food Bank: Community Gardening
Saturday, November 17, 2012
9AM - 12PM
Omenala Griot Community Garden
337 Dargan Place, SW
Atlanta, Georgia 30310
Omenala Griot Community Garden has been adopted by the organization HABESHA: http://www.habeshainc.org/
The community gardens are neighborhood initiated, implemented and maintained so most of the work is done by local gardeners. These garden clubs are comprised mostly of seniors in low-income neighborhoods and our volunteers help amplify the efforts of the neighborhood residents. Volunteers often times get the opportunity to work alongside some of the neighborhood gardeners! Activities you may partake in include: planting, seeding, weeding, turning the soil, building new beds, and moving materials all in the effort to help people grow their own food and beautify the area.
Semira Ajani will represent HABESHA and Lili will represent the Food Bank. If anyone is running late or has trouble finding the garden on your day of service, please have them call Lili at 678-772-8718.
• Volunteers will be working outside and should dress for the weather. No open-toed shoes please.
