Workgroups: Save AmeriCorps Advocacy

AmeriCorps Funding is at Risk – and AmeriCorps Alums are the Voice for why the Program should be Funded and Expand Recently, the House of Representatives proposed ZERO funding for AmeriCorps in the 2012 Budget – this is unacceptable! We’ve always been a coalition partner in the Save Service coalition, but the time is now for AmeriCorps Alums to be in more focused on advocacy. That means finding more ways to harness the voice of Alums, tell the story of how service has translated in professional and community leadership, and why the contributions we’ve all made as individuals through National Service MUST be protected for the generations who want to serve their country in 2012 and future years.

Going forward, AmeriCorps Alums is deeply committed to using our resources and energy to advocate for National Service and empowering individual alumni who have served to share their story and voice. We’ll continue to grow and deepen engagement through our chapters to serve and lead in cities across the country, as well as look for ways to engage alumni online through professional development, access to matching university scholarships, job readiness, and other benefits. But the future of AmeriCorps Alums matters only with a prosperous future for AmeriCorps – so we will advocate in partnership and collaboration with the Save Service Coalition, while identifying ways to harness the voice of a generation.
