Congress Acts in Support of AmeriCorps*NCCC

Wednesday, November 07, 2007
Late Monday night, the U.S. House and Senate conferees filed the conference report on H.R. 3043, the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill for Fiscal year 2008. The conference bill recommends $873.9 million for the Corporation and its programs, including $24.205 million for AmeriCorps*NCCC. While this is lower than the $31.7 million recommended by the U.S. Senate, it is considerably higher than the $11.6 million recommended by the U.S. House of Representatives.  AmeriCorps Alums congratulates and thanks all alumni and supporters who worked to voice their support for AmeriCorps*NCCC.

What does this mean? The full U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill yesterday, and the full Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill today, which is also likely to pass.  Once it is passed by the Senate, the bill will be sent to the President to be signed into law.  However, President Bush has indicated that he will veto the bill- meaning it will be sent back to Congress for reconsideration.  Because of this likely outcome, we are asking that you continue to voice your support to both chambers of Congress.  For a comprehensive list of actions to take, please click here.  We have also included phone numbers for key contacts below.
