AmeriCorps Alums Names Permanent Director

On September 11, 2006, Amity C. Tripp was officially named Director of AmeriCorps Alums.  The announcement was made public at the 2006 Friends of Alums Fundraiser in Washington, DC on September 14, 2006.  Tripp, who had served as Interim Director since March brings several years of national service experience-- including over four years with the Points of Light Foundation, and over a year and a half with Serve DC, Washington DC’s Commission on National and Community Service. An alum herself, Tripp served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA starting after school reading programs in Baltimore, MD.

 

Tripp says, "I am delighted to accept this important position. I believe very strongly in the collective power of former AmeriCorps members continuing service in the communities where they now live, connecting to other alums, strengthening AmeriCorps as a whole and becoming a national force for change in this country. I will be calling on and counting on all alums to bring this vision to fruition because together, we can influence the success and potential of AmeriCorps Alums!”  In addition, Shirley Sagawa, co-chair of the AmeriCorps Alums national steering committee, adds “Amity performed expertly leading the Alums through a critical transition period.  She has the right ‘servant leader’ skills that we need to take AmeriCorps Alums to the next level,”
