AmeriCorps Alums Helps Pave Way for New National Service Legislation
Friday, April 20, 2007
AmeriCorps Alums is thrilled to report that yesterday's Capitol Hill event at the House Committee on Education and Labor’s hearing on “Renewing the Spirit of National and Community Service”. Representing AmeriCorps Alums was Marcia Brown. Ms. Brown was an excellent ambassador for AmeriCorps Alums and provided an authentic, candid testimony— that sincere commitment was certainly not lost on the committee members, and it would be impossible to ignore the numerous plugs of “AmeriCorps Alums” throughout the hearing.
The sub-committee has taken a particular interest in the issue of the opportunity to continue to engage AmeriCorps alumni in ongoing service. The hearing and Marcia’s statement was an important public forum to shine light on that issue and we will be working with the committee in the coming weeks to identify how exactly that idea can be translated into new public policy in the reauthorization bill.
