“It has been almost 400 days since I last uttered the AmeriCorps pledge to ‘get things done for America,’” says AmeriCorps alum and current IPSL student Michael Blair. Today’s article is sponsored by the IPSL Graduate Program in International Development and Service, a program that educates leaders for professional careers with NGOs, educational, institutions, and community development organizations with an international and/or diversity focus. AmeriCorps NCCC team leader alums Michael Blair and Derek Miller, who served together and are now at IPSL, share more about their service journeys. Click here to read more.

TWO OPPORTUNITIES TO FIND A GRAD SCHOOL: 9/1 & 9/30
This September, you’ll have two chances to connect with grad school recruiters! Since we’ve started our virtual fairs, over 30 schools have recruited alums including the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the Brandeis Heller School for Social Policy and Managment. Many of these schools offer exclusive scholarships and financial incentives for alums. And all of them want alums just like you on their campus. Sign up today and find the right graduate program for you! Click here to sign up for our September 1st fair and here for our fair on the 30th.
HOW CAN 8 DAYS IMPACT YOUR CAREER?
This article comes from AmeriCorps Alums’ new member benefits partner Discover Corps and is written by AmeriCorps alum, Sandy Cooper. “As a former Team Leader with AmeriCorps NCCC,” Sandy says, “I have had a tendency to favor long-term service. However, my 8-day volunteer trip with Discover Corps had a profound impact on me. If you are considering applying to the Peace Corps or are thinking about an overseas career, Discover Corps' volunteer trips offer a glimpse into the reality of working with a grassroots organization in a developing country. And due to the partnership between AmeriCorps Alums and Discover Corps, we all qualify for a discount on all of their trips." Read more about her experience and our 10% discount for alums …

TWO AMERICORPS LEADERS RECONGIZED BY THE WHITE HOUSE!
This past month, two AmeriCorps alums received invitations to the White House. AmeriCorps alum Kenesha Jackson joined The Corp Network’s Greater Miami Service Corps at a challenging time in her life. She was pregnant and still working toward a high school diploma. Kenesha says, "the Corps saved my life,” and she's now a college student and recently spoke at a White House briefing on community leadership. Click here to read more.

While prepping for a second term, AmeriCorps alum Juan Matos also received an invitation to meet President Obama before the president spoke at the NAACP Convention in Philadelphia. Juan’s story of how AmeriCorps helped turn his life around after prison, inspired the president and served as further testament to AmeriCorps’ ability to redefine lives and open up new career pathways.
