The Friends of AmeriCorps Alums Reception is an annual fundraiser and reunion of “Friends” and alumni of AmeriCorps. This year the event takes place on Monday, January 26, 2009, following the exciting Inauguration events in Washington, DC. Tickets are $100 for friends and $50 for alumni, your donation is tax deductible. To purchase tickets through our secure online ticketing and registration system, please click here now.
On February 9, 2009, Shirley Sagawa will receive the “Lifetime of Service” award. Shirley has been called a “founding mother of the modern service movement” for her work on national service. She has served as a presidential appointee in both the first Bush and Clinton administrations. As Special Assistant to President Clinton for Domestic Policy, Shirley was instrumental to the drafting and passage of legislation creating the Corporation for National Service. As the Corporation’s first managing director, she led the development of new service programs for adults and students, including AmeriCorps and led the organization's strategic planning.
This event will recognize another champion to AmeriCorps: David Eisner. David will be celebrated for his five years as the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. His tenure began at a time of challenge and difficulty for the organization, and immediately brought strong management and passionate advocacy to its service programs. Under his leadership, AmeriCorps is in a position of strength and we are grateful for his leadership and incredible impact.
