The future of NCCC is currently being debated in Senate Labor Education HHS Bill Appropriations Meeting.  It is expected that the Senate will voice its support for NCCC by approving funding levels of $31.7M.  SEE IT LIVE HERE!
Today the Senate resumes consideration of the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Act, which includes funding for NCCC.  Ask your Senator to support full funding of NCCC at $31.7 million.
 
Senate Support
On October 23, 2007 the U.S. Senate officially passed the Labor HHS Appropriations Bill, which included funding of $31.7 Million for AmeriCorps*NCCC.  Negotiations with the U.S. House of Representatives, which only included funding of $11.1 Million for AmeriCorps*NCCC, is next.  Learn how you can help!
Take Action
The Labor HHS Committees from the House of Represenatives and the Senate have begun finalizing appropriations for FY 2008. Funding for NCCC falls under their jurisdiction- Learn what you can do to help ensure the security of AmeriCorps NCCC.
Congress Acts
The Labor HHS Conference Committeehas submitted an appropriations bill that allocates $873.9 million to national service, including $24.205 million for AmeriCorps*NCCC.  What does this mean?

On Friday, May 16, 2008, U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut will introduce the AmeriCorps Act of 2008.  AmeriCorps Alums is asking all alums to take action in supporting the Act.  It will increase the size of the Education Award, eliminate taxation on the Education Award, and promote the Corporation for National and Community Service to cabinet level status.  Here are four easy way to take action:
  1. Call the office of your Senators
  2. Ask for the Legislative Director, and request that your Senator co-sponsor the AmeriCorps Act of 2008. 
  3. To join as a co-sponsor, let them know that they will need to contact Mary Ellen McGuire with Senator Dodd's office by email: MaryEllen_McGuire@help.senate.gov. The deadline for cosponsors is Thursday, May 15th (today) at 4pm.
  4. Call and thank Senator Dodd for introducing the legislation.
