AMERICORPS ALUMS, IPSL LAUNCH EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP
Share |

AmeriCorps Alums is excited to announce a new year-long national partnership with IPSL, a Master’s degree program in International Development and Service with concentrations in global nonprofit management, international educational leadership, sustainability, and international studies.  The partnership will focus on providing a pathway for alumni of AmeriCorps to be trained as international leaders through the resources at IPSL, supporting AmeriCorps Alums’ vision that a vibrant network of AmeriCorps alumni will be the leadership pipeline for the 21st century.

The partnership will feature three distinct components to best reach Alumni across the country. First, AmeriCorps Alums will feature IPSL in its monthly Career Newsletter, highlighting the unique learning environment and graduate programs that focus on international service. IPSL will conduct two professional development trainings in 2013 for AmeriCorps alumni interested in pursuing non-profit careers in an international setting.  Finally, IPSL will also collaborate with AmeriCorps Alums chapters to host local networking events for alumni and current members interested in pursuing graduate school.

"The opportunity to partner with IPSL is a perfect fit for AmeriCorps Alums.  This partnership connects our alumni members to a unique opportunity to develop their domestic service learning and leadership skills while applying them in an international setting,” shared Ben Duda, Executive Director of AmeriCorps Alums.  "We know our members seek to serve beyond their terms of AmeriCorps and IPSL offers their students the pathway to making change around the world.

Arianne Newton, Director of Programs at IPSL noted, "AmeriCorps alumni are the ideal candidate for us.  They come equipped with a working understanding of the nonprofit and NGO world that is rooted in an ideal of service.  IPSL looks forward to connecting with those AmeriCorps alumni interested in pursuing graduate school education.”

The IPSL graduate program offers a Master’s degree in International Development and Service, provides a 10% match for Ed Awards applied to the program, and can be completed in four semesters. Students spend two semesters in Portland, Oregon, on the campus of Concordia University-Portland, as well as two semesters at two different IPSL International program locations.  A full list of locations can be found here, including Siena, Italy, The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, and Chiang Mai, Thailand.  While abroad, students are immersed in the local culture through living with host families, taking classes at our partner universities, and serving in local agencies.
