From March 13-17, 2007, AmeriCorps Alums brought together more than 150 AmeriCorps alumni from across the country to connect, lead, and further galvanize the Alums movement. This 4-½ day, collaborative conference brought together a network of AmeriCorps Alums, current AmeriCorps members, State Commission champions, Hands On affiliates, and some of our nation’s foremost thought leaders.
Networking events such as an Alums reception, a breakfast roundtable with Hands On affiliates, and open discussions led to new partnerships. A recent survey revealed that 62% of Alums Chapter Leaders who participated in the conference were able to create new partnership plans with their local Hands On affiliate or state service commission.
Service opportunities included the "Hand for a Homeowner" project, where AmeriCorps Alums and current corpmembers installed insulation, primed and painted two Katrina-damaged houses to help New Orleans community members come one step closer to feeling at home again.
At the 2007 Conference, AmeriCorps Alums Chapter Leaders planned:
16 Networking Events
12 Service Projects
9 Recruitment Events
3 Corps Reunions, and
2 Training Workshops
for a total of 42 new opportunities for AmeriCorps Alums to stay connected and make a positive impact in their local communities.
More than a dozen interactive workshops were offered as part of the AmeriCorps Alums pre-conference. The following links will take you to the PowerPoint presentations and handouts from each of these workshop topics:
