It’s hard to say goodbye to 2014—a year that saw more people talking about AmeriCorps than ever before and the most hotly-contested-unofficial-best-service-photo-of-the-year contest (view entries here, here, and here).
What’s next for us in 2015? You can count on even more ways to share your voice and service with us in the coming year. First, we’re celebrating Dr. King’s legacy of service in January.
Then, AmeriCorps VISTA kicks off its year of 50th anniversary celebrations on February 25th in Washington, D.C. (see their launch video and get involved here). In June, we’ll be celebrating — with you — the 20th anniversary of the first AmeriCorps alum. Twenty years ago, the first AmeriCorps member became an alum, and this June, we’ll celebrate Corps members across the country who are not just graduating, but launching a lifetime of service. Mark your calendars—and stay tuned for more details!
As we kick off a new year, we’re as resolved as ever to getting things done with, and for, you.

Take Up the Challenge—#MLKDAY2015
Dr. King envisioned an America that brings people together to solve community challenges. On January 19th, thousands of volunteers will take up Dr. King’s unfinished social justice work by volunteering, hosting Sunday Suppers, or honoring servant leaders in our neighborhoods. We hope you will take #MLKDAY2015 as a day on rather than a day off. Check out this guide to planning and marketing a new event, or click here to join a project near you and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy. If you’re planning a Sunday Supper, find recipe ideas in Points of Light’s celebrity cookbook and join an upcoming Twitter chat (#familydinnerforward) on Tuesday, January 13, 12 — 1 PM EST with Points of Light and the Family Dinner Project for tips on starting the dinner conversation. Together, we’ll learn simple and easy ways to spark civic dialogue in our communities and how to engage — at the dinner table and beyond.
Learn How to Maximzie Your Alum Benefits
We have two opportunities this month to learn how to maximize the benefits you gain as an alum with information on using your education award and our new health benefits. On January 16th, you can participate in an orientation to the AmeriCorps Alums Benefits Marketplace from 12 — 1 PM EST. Register here to learn more about the health benefits available, what a marketplace is, and how it can benefit you. Then, tune back in with us on January 22, 12 — 1 PM EST to hear about the most effective ways to use your Eli Segal education award. Register for the education talk here.
