What kind of person, and what kind of experience is the Corporation looking for?
We are seeking an AmeriCorps Alum with a track record of results. The successful candidate can manage all aspects of a project with nation-wide impact, can work independently and effectively at the highest level of the agency, can make a positive contribution to the discussion of national service, and exercises political savvy in dealing with strategic partners. The Segal Fellow must demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedication to National Service and its ideals, a social entrepreneurial spirit, and effective communication and analytical skills.
What will the Fellow do?
The CEO, David Eisner, is currently developing potential assignments for the Fellow although our preference would be to support a project identified by the applicant. The Fellow will also spend time shadowing David and other executives, attending meetings, conducting limited travel, and participating in additional learning opportunities.
What kind of appointment is this?
This is a discretionary appointment.
How much does this pay?
The salary is $25,000 for either a 10 or 12 month period. Full benefits are included.
Why would someone want to serve for 12 months for the same amount of money?
In some cases, the individual may have a project to complete and/or may wish to take advantage of health care coverage, etc.
Will the Corporation pay relocation costs?
Why are only full time (1700 hour) Alumni are eligible?
The full-time model represents the most intense immersion in the AmeriCorps program. In addition, Eli Segal was especially enthusiastic about full time AmeriCorps service. Therefore, the fellowship will go to a person who served full time in AmeriCorps.
Are NCCC and VISTA members eligible?
NCCC and VISTA members are eligible, if they have served a full year.
What are the eligibility requirements?
The Fellow must be a U.S. Citizen, must have completed a full time term of service in AmeriCorps within the last three years (some exceptions may be granted- see next question), and must be available to serve in the Corporation Headquarters beginning in October 2006.
What kind of exceptions will be granted?
Those alumni who were enrolled in full time studies, in active military service and/or other full time service (for example, Peace Corps) may be exempt from the requirement of completing AmeriCorps within the last three years.
Are CNCS Staff who are AmeriCorps alumni eligible, if they meet the other requirements?
Does Veteran’s Preference apply?
This is a discretionary appointment. Veteran’s Preference is inapplicable although Veterans are encouraged to apply.
Is there an education requirement?
The Fellow must have a high school diploma or a GED.
Does the Segal Family know about this Fellowship? Are they involved?
The Segal Family are involved and will participate in the selection. The fellow will learn about Eli’s vision, activities and ideals through regular meetings with family members and other influential individuals in the Washington area.

How will the individual be selected?
The Office of Human Capital will review application packages for eligibility and completeness. Those applications that are complete and eligible will proceed to resume review and scoring by a team of CNCS Staff. Telephone interviews will be conducted with a group of semi-finalists. Finalists will be selected for interviews. The CEO will make the final decision. A Segal Family member or designee will be involved in the selection process.
