House of Representatives
State the main purpose of the call
Be clear that you are a constitutent, and that you would like your Congressman to support funding for the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) of $31.7 million.  Let them know that the House Labor-HHS bill only included $11.6M for AmeriCorps*NCCC.

NOTE: If you are a constituent of the following representatives, it is especially important that you call- these members are the "official authority" in determining NCCC funding.  They are referred to as Conferees.
U.S. House of Representative Labor-HHS Conferees

Remind them of the importance and necessity of Americorps*NCCC with selected stats
  • One NCCC Member leverages 65 volunteers
  • NCCC has provided 1.4 million hours of service in the post Katrina Gulf
  • Selected NCCC State profiles for members of Congress deemed critical to the NCCC effort
  • Two NCCC campuses have already been closed
  • NCCC trained and Red Carded fire fighters are in Southern California helping to bring the fires under control. These members received their training through the NCCC and the residential nature of the program allows them to be able to respond swiftly and without consequence to family or other work obligations
  • NCCC ran an extremely successful Summer of Service program for 400 youth aged 14 - 17 at three locations this past summer, the impacts of this program were profound to the youth who participated
  • As a reminder: the President's 08 budget cut NCCC funding to $11.6 million. The Senate put it at $31.7 million, the House supported the President at $11.6 million. This is not a partisan issue. The work the NCCC does helps people throughout the country who are in need regardless of their party affiliation.

Thank them for their time, and ask who you can follow up with to see that the issue is addressed
