During the kickoff ,members and staff of Western New York AmeriCorps had the privilege of presenting Robert Gioia, President of the Foundation with a plaque of appreciation, honoring The John R Oishei Foundation's passion and commitment to service across Western New York.
Like The John R Oishei Foundation, the Western New York Service Corps works toward improving the lives of Buffalo and Western New York residents. Thanks to The Foundation's generous sponsorship the Service Corps is able to double its efforts to assist the community. Last year the Service Corps delivered 2.9 million pounds of food to pantries throughout WNY. With the addition of the Oishei team the Service Corps is now well on its way to delivering over 3 million pounds of food this year. With this funding, WNY Service Corps is also able to commit to additional environmental projects as well as assisting low-income elderly and disabled individuals move into new housing. In addition to the Service Corps members strengthening WNY communities on a daily basis, the members are working towards bettering themselves through higher education and leadership development trainings.
