Join us from 1pm - 4pm to help Hope Community throw a community block party in the Phillips neighborhood, one of the most diverse and economically challenged areas of Minneapolis. From Hope Community:

It is Hope Community’s 30th anniversary and we are celebrating the community by throwing a block party on Portland Avenue, Saturday, September 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. We expect 1,500 people to attend. There will be free food, entertainment representing many cultures, and activities and games for children and adults.

During the event, volunteers will be needed to host the different sites, including getting the acts on and off the stage, giving out information, assisting the food vendors, staffing the children’s area, organizing people for the opening community ceremony, announcing upcoming performers, running errands, solving problems, hosting the off stage areas.

About Hope Community: In a neighborhood that had been dominated by devastation and abandoned buildings, Hope Community now owns and manages 126 units of rental housing along with outdoor and indoor community space, gardens, and playgrounds. More housing will soon be under construction. Throughout the year Hope Community engages hundreds of youth, adults and families in opportunities for learning, leadership and community building.

Join AmeriCorps Alums to support a great organization and have some outdoor fun (while the weather still allows us to)! If you plan to come, please register by August 17th so we can get a number over to Hope Community.
