Aftercare for Indiana through Mentoring (AIM) was founded the IUPUI professor Roger Jarjoua and his fellow IUPUI students in 1995. Indiana Mentor Corps (an AmeriCorps State Program) offers individuals to serve as team leaders, resource brokers and community-advocates for incarcerated youth who will be reintegrating back into the community. These members will be responsible for identifying and assessing youths’ needs through in-depth interviews and leading a team of mentors and volunteers to assist the youth in meeting those needs. Members may also facilitate a life-skills curriculum to better prepare youth for the transition into the community. The work area, in our center at AIM, where the AmeriCorps members work is located in an old house and in desperate need of new carpet, holes patched, and walls painted. We do not have any funds currently designated for this. We hope to solicit donations to be able to cover the majority of this project. We wanted to get the word out in case any of the alums might be interested in participating in our community work day helping us prepare a comfortable, clean work environment for our new AmeriCorps members and/or donate supplies. If you would like to help clean up the AmeriCorps member's work area, or donate supplies to the work area, please register for this event today.
