MLK Day of Service
Monday, January 19, 2008
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
New LEF Office
829-D Savannah Highway
West Ashley

As part of the annual MLK Day of Service, Lowcountry Earth Force (LEF) has planned a community service event for volunteers in Charleston who are looking to make MLK a "Day On, Not a Day Off!"  LEF is a local nonprofit whose mission is to engage youth as active citizens who improve the environment and their communities now and in the future.
LEF will be relocating to a new office in West Ashley in late January, and with the timing we thought we could use this day to help get the new office painted and prepped for some last minute renovations.  We are currently looking for volunteers on Monday, January 19 to help paint our new office in West Ashley at 829-D Savannah Highway starting at 9:00 AM.
History of the MLK Day of Service
Initiated by Congress in 1994, King Day of Service builds on that that legacy by transforming the federal holiday honoring Dr. King into a national day of community service grounded in his teachings of nonviolence and social justice. The aim is to make the holiday a day ON, where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers, and move our nation closer to the "Beloved Community" that Dr. King envisioned.
