Description: ad*vo*cate: noun. One that argues for a cause; a supporter or defender: an advocate of civil rights.

Oregon consistently ranks above the national average in hunger. Ever wonder what we can do to address the root causes of this issue? We invite you to find out by joining us in a lively discussion at the Oregon Food Bank.

Every month, the Oregon Food Bank's advocacy department creates the Advocacy Alert, a newsletter resource for concerned citizens to help play a role in eliminating hunger. During the discussion, HOP volunteers do the folding, stuffing and addressing of the Advocacy Alert. A member of the Advocacy department facilitates the conversation and helps the volunteers complete the monthly 'Take Five' at the end of the evening.

The 'Take Five' is a portion of the newsletter that suggests to people one action that they can take that takes less than five minutes to complete. It usually involves emailing or calling your legislator, and they walk you through it, every step of the way!

This project is open to all AmeriCorps Alumni, including VISTA, N*CCC and AmeriCorps State and National.
