In collaboration with the City of Billings, MCC (Montana Conservation Corps) has several projects planned along Alkali Creek. There is a new city bike path that is being installed, so we are trying to spruce up the area. Please bring a pair of work gloves.

 If your AmeriCorps friends in town haven’t registered yet, please encourage them to do so. The event is also open to the public. Registration can take place online at :

We’ll kick off the work projects at 9:30 a.m. with a brief project introduction and safety briefing. Please look for the MCC tent in the Target parking lot in the Heights (403 Main Street). We’ll conclude with a free sub lunch at noon and t-shirts will be provided. If you have a dietary restriction, please reply to this email so we can best accommodate you.

Projects include:
-          Cleaning up the creek from large debris
-          Pulling weeds on both sides of the bike path (Canadian thistle and knapweed)
-          Cutting and removing Russian olive debris along creek
-          Removing visual debris
-          Chanel under the bridge needs to be removed of debris and trash
-          Grade, install a large u-shaped check dam and fill in drainage with rock
-          Installing signs on storm drains that say “this water leads to a water source”
