AmeriCorps Alums at the 2006 Governor's Community Service Awards

The first 25 Alums to register for this event will receive a FREE ticket to the Awards Ceremony (a $20 value), as well as a special Alums-only Reception!!

The Governor's Community Service Awards honor volunteer heroes from all across the state for their service to Michigan communities.

This year’s event is taking on a new look. Jeff Daniels and other local talent will perform at a theatre-style event, where Mr. Daniels, Governor Jennifer Granholm and First Gentleman Daniel Mulhern pay tribute to Michigan volunteers with awards in eight categories demonstrating the diverse nature of volunteers throughout Michigan.

Jeff Daniels, who was born in Georgia and raised in southeast Michigan, is the founder and executive director of The Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, Michigan. His Hollywood acclaim began in the 1980s with films such as “Terms of Endearment” (1983) and “The Purple Rose of Cairo” (1985). His film credits also include “Speed” (1994), “Dumb and Dumber” (1994), “Pleasantville” (1998), “Blood Work” (2002), “Because of Winn Dixie” (2005), "Good Night and Good Luck" (2005) and more. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his stunning performance in “The Squid and the Whale” (2005). “RV”, his latest movie co-starring Robin Williams, is scheduled to open in late April.

AmeriCorps Alums represents a commitment to a lifetime of service, and the Metro Detroit chapter is pleased to offer applause to the award winners.  If you're an Alum who would like to represent the chapter at the Governor's Community Service Awards, please register for this event by April 30th.
