The Atlanta Chapter of AmeriCorps Alums, in conjunction with the Georgia Commission on Service and Volunteerism, is participating in MLK, Jr. Day of Service activities across the state of Georgia.  Throughout six pre-determined regions in Georgia, AmeriCorps alumni will gather at senior citizen centers to help spread the Seat for Social Justice project across the state of Georgia.
A Seat For Social Justice serves a strong symbolic reminder of the challenges many U.S. citizens have faced in the fight for civil rights.  Alumni will work together with current members and seniors to create a seat (see below for an example) that will serve as the signature MLK Day activity for the Harnett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Complex.  We will also participate in a project that chronicles the thoughts and comments of seniors on the state of The Civil Rights Movement as it stood in the 60’s as compared to how it stands now.  These stories will then be highlighted in a mini documentary created by AmeriCorps Alums.
