Martin Luther King, Jr. day is an opportunity to connect communities, people of different backgrounds, and all ages to make January 18, 2010 a "day on, not a day off."  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. philosophy teaches us that social problems can be addressed through service.  So join the Atlanta Chapter of AmeriCorps Alums as we engage Dobbs Elementary school students and the community in a legacy of service!
In the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Atlanta Chapter of AmeriCorps Alums are partnering with Dobbs Elementary School in a project that connects the environment with education and our economy.  These three components intersect and affect the school and the neighborhood surrounding Dobbs Elementary School.
Volunteers will:
-Create an environmentally safe bike trail/walk trail with mulch (where students will learn about alternative means of transportation)
-Plant trees to create a community orchard for students to grow snacks (that save on snack expenses)
-Create grade level planting beds for students (to use as a learning tool about the basics of nutrition)
Impact areas:  Environment, education, economy, youth
*Volunteers ages 9 years old and up are welcome with adult supervision.
