LL&W is giving free oak trees and we need your help!
In March and April, LL&W will be giving away 100,000 free oak seedlings to businesses, schools, youth groups, churches, families, anyone who’d like to plant a tree. This is a huge task and the crew is looking for some great volunteers, like you, to lend a hand. If you can spare an hour or more, please read on for details on how you can participate.
In March, the LL&W crew will be hosting volunteer events to get 100,000 oak seedlings ready for deliveries throughout the Midwest. The most important factor in getting these trees from the nursery to your community is the protection of the trees while being transported. In order for the tree to stay healthy (and alive), the roots must retain moisture and be protected from damage. Volunteers and crew members will be wrapping the tree’s roots in a damp medium and placing them in bags which will be tied off and finished with a care tag. The bundles of trees will then be organized for delivery and packaged accordingly to provide optimal protection for the tree’s health.
Various shifts are available to volunteer and you can visit the LL&W website to register for this event! If you have questions or would like additional information, contact Denise Mitten, Programs Coordinator, at the phone number or email listed below.
Come on out and help Living Lands & Waters work towards growing the Millionth Tree!
