You've Changed the World, and the World’s Changed You. Now What?

“As someone who has been profoundly changed by the community I served during AmeriCorps,” says alum Lauren Mehl, “I’m proud to be a part of an education program that values my service experience.” Today’s article is sponsored by Antioch University Seattle and is written by Lauren, the executive assistant to Antioch’s president. Antioch University recognizes the important contributions alumni made through AmeriCorps service and offers two service-specific scholarships. Virtual Grad School Fairs Back by Popular Demand!

Join us for one or more upcoming AmeriCorps Alums Virtual Grad School Fairs on May 6, September 1, September 30, and December 10. Last year, 30 schools recruited at our fairs, many with scholarships and financial incentives for alums. Past participating schools included the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, Brandeis University’s Heller School of Social Policy and Management, and the USC Rossier School of Education. Our school partners tell us alums come in with more hard skills and have the motivation and initiative to succeed in grad school. Let’s prove them right again this year. Sign up today for our first fair in May and find the right grad program for you.

Should You Run for Office?

We can bridge our nation’s political divides. And we can do it with alums leading the way. Emily Cherniack’s AmeriCorps service changed her life. “I was blown away by the leadership of the people I served with,” says Emily. “I started New Politics to get leaders who had already demonstrated their dedication to our country in the military or national service elected. These are the transformational leaders who can effect change by bringing people together.” In 2014, New Politics nurtured campaigns of national service leaders from start to finish. And it worked. Voters in Massachusetts’ sixth district chose Marine veteran Seth Moulton over an 18-year incumbent Democrat and a popular, well-known moderate Republican. Voters in Wisconsin chose AmeriCorps alums Jonathan Brostoff and David Bowen to serve as State Representatives in Madison. Learn more or get involved by visiting
