"Lifetime of Service" Award Recipient: Shirley Sagawa
On February 9, 2009, Shirley Sagawa will receive the “Lifetime of Service” award. Shirley has served as a presidential appointee in both the first Bush and Clinton administrations. As Special Assistant to President Clinton for Domestic Policy, Shirley was instrumental to the drafting and passage of legislation creating the Corporation for National Service. As the Corporation’s first managing director, she led the development of new service programs for adults and students, including AmeriCorps and led the organization's strategic planning.

As a "Woman to Watch in the 21st Century," says Newsweek magazine, one of the "Most Influential Working Mothers in America" says Working Mother magazine and a "founding mother of the modern service movement" in the United States, Shirley deserves our recognition for her lifetime of service. Please join us on February 9th to honor our champion.
Presenting the Lifetime of Service Award to Shirley Sagawa
The first woman in history to be elected a Governor and a United States Senator, Jeanne Shaheen has been involved in all levels of New Hampshire life. She taught in a New Hampshire high school, chaired the Town of Madbury's zoning board and served three terms in the State Senate. Shaheen became the first woman elected Governor of New Hampshire, serving three terms from 1997-2003. In 2008 Shaheen became the first woman elected to the United States Senate from New Hampshire.

This event will recognize another champion to AmeriCorps: David Eisner. David will be celebrated for his five years as the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. His tenure began at a time of challenge and difficulty for the organization, and immediately brought strong management and passionate advocacy to its service programs. Under his leadership, AmeriCorps is in a position of strength and we are grateful for his leadership and incredible impact.
