Tell Us Your Story of Service and Impact

Dear Alum,
AmeriCorps Alums are talented leaders that are making a difference. This was demonstrated at high profile events over the past month, as well as in the stories being shared at the new website. We’re committed to celebrating your stories of impact and supporting your pursuit of a lifetime of service.

In June, more than a hundred alumni leaders gathered at the Aspen Institute/Franklin Project’s Summit at Gettysburg and the National Conference on Volunteering and Service in Atlanta. There, we met with national service leaders like Chelsea Clinton and General Stanley McChrystal, and heard from AmeriCorps Alums who are working in fields as diverse as they are. Together, we helped to chart the course for the future of national service.

As we celebrate the first 20 years of AmeriCorps this September, and work to define the next 20 years, we want to hear from you. How did AmeriCorps shape your life and career? How are you serving and leading in your community?

Visit AmeriCorps Alums’ 20th Anniversary website,! The website offers three ways to get involved today:

     • Share Your Story: Tell us how you’re still getting things done for America and share stories of 2-3 other alums you know who make a difference. Nominations for our 20th anniversary awards are due August 1!
     • Pledge: Serve 20 hours this summer in recognition of your commitment to a “Lifetime of Service.”
     • Join: Help us get more alums registered with AmeriCorps Alums.

We know AmeriCorps Alums are an untapped natural resource for America and are excited to introduce America to more AmeriCorps Alums. Share your story “Beyond the A!”

In Service,

Ben and Mary

P.S. We have resources for you! In addition to our 20th Anniversary website,, we also have a host of resources to support you and your organization in your 20th anniversary planning! Check out our 20th Anniversary Resource page:

Thank Your Mayor for Endorsing You and Your Service

The United States Conference of Mayors unanimously endorsed AmeriCorps as a critical and cost-effective solution for addressing challenges in our cities in the 82nd Annual Meeting on June 23, 2014,in Dallas, Texas. Included in this resolution was a renewed and explicit commitment to hire alums into open city positions. Read more in our thank you letter to mayors here and use social media to thank @usmayors and your own city’s mayor on Twitter (sample tweet) and Facebook (sample Facebook).

3 New Ways We're Supporting Your Life After AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps Alums piloted three new initiatives in the last month – as part of our on-going commitment to your “Life After AmeriCorps.” First, our Virtual Resume Review session matched 19 volunteer resume reviewers with over 120 alums looking to improve their job search prospects. Then, we launched the International Careers Series, sponsored by IPSL, in an effort to connect leading alums working in international and intercultural careers while also giving them a platform to speak about their work. (More here.) Register for our second podcast on International Education here

Finally, on July 8, over 1,000 alums registered to participate in our Virtual Career Fair with 15 employers and 42 recruiters all looking to match talent that was #MadeInAmeriCorps with open positions at companies like the American Red Cross, Teach for America, and Boys Town and with other for-profit, government, and nonprofit employers!

This year’s Conference on Volunteering and Service offered further proof of our assertion that AmeriCorps alums aren’t emerging leaders—we’re already leading. Wendy Spencer, the CEO of CNCS, said it best when she stopped by our Town Hall, “AmeriCorps Alums are a movement.” Over 400 AmeriCorps alums joined us during conference to share stories, ask questions, and prepare to celebrate 20 years of service from now until our anniversary on September 12th. AmeriCorps Alums were center stage at this year’s Conference, and here’s a quick recap and preview of what’s coming next in case you couldn’t catch the action from the front-row. Read more here.
