Nominations are currently being accepted for the Governor's Awards for Volunteer Service, Indiana's most prestigious award celebrating the accomplishments of some of the State's most dedicated volunteers and practitioners. “From mentoring at-risk youth, to promoting healthier lifestyles, and to helping our senior citizens stay active and independent, Hoosier volunteers touch lives with hope and encouragement everyday,” said Governor Mitch Daniels.

The awards presentation is a highlight of the 5th Annual Governor's Conference on Service and Volunteerism to be held on March 25 and 26th at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel and Suites located at Keystone at the Crossing. Hosted by the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) in partnership with Indiana Campus Compact (ICC), the Conference theme is “Learning from Yesterday, Preparing for Tomorrow” and will feature over 75 sessions within seven conference tracks.

The keynote speaker for the award luncheon will be Henry Lozano, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of USA Freedom Corps. “This year's Conference will inspire, inform and challenge participants who are working every day to make Indiana and the world a better place to live,” said Paula Parker-Sawyers, Executive Director of OFBCI.

Individuals may be nominated in one of the six categories: Youth, Service-Learning, Faith-based, Volunteerism, National Service and Lifetime achievement. “The OFBCI has streamlined nominations this year through a user-friendly online application process”, said John Rentsch, Training and Inclusion Manager at OFBCI, and Conference Coordinator.

The Governor's Award for Volunteer Service application deadline is February 22, 2008.
Early Bird Conference registration deadline is February 29, 2008. The award nomination application and conference registration forms can be found at:
