On December 8th, before adjourning for the year, the outgoing 109th Congress cleared another short-term continuing resolution (CR).  This stopgap spending measure will keep the government’s agencies and programs funded through February 15, 2007.  This year, Congress cleared only two fiscal year (FY) 2007 spending bills, Defense and Homeland Security.   FY 2007 began on October 1.  The CR will continue to fund the Corporation for National and Community Service and its three core programs at their FY06 enacted levels:

  • AmeriCorps State and National Grants: $264.8 million
  • National Service Trust Fund: $138.6 million
  • NCCC: $26.7 million
  • Learn & Serve America: $37.1 million
  • VISTA: $95.5 million

The 110th congressional session will begin January 4th.  When the policymakers return, they are expected to adopt a long-term continuing resolution for the balance of FY 2007. President Bush’s FY08 budget recommendations will be submitted to Congress on Monday, February 5.
