The National Advisory Council includes AmeriCorps Alums Co-Executive Directors and serves as the advisory group to help direct and support the mission of AmeriCorps Alums. Members of the Advisory Council all served in AmeriCorps. They bring their experience of national service and professional experience in private and nonprofit sectors to provide direction in the advancement of the AmeriCorps Alums brand and mission nationally. The council works closely with our Executive Directors to enhance the alumni experience of the registered members of the AmeriCorps Alums network.

Ana Estrada, MPA, is the current chair of the AmeriCorps Alums National Advisory Council. She is an Independent Consultant who works with clients to advance social justice solutions by supporting leadership development opportunities, building capacity and evaluating impact. Previously, she serves as the Director of Programs and Customer Relations for the Kiely Group, an organizational effectiveness consulting group. Prior to joining the Kiely Group, she designed and delivered leadership programs with the University of Southern California’s Price School of Public Policy. Her projects included partnering with the California Institute for Mental Health Leadership Institute; the Sierra Health Foundation Health Leadership Program; and assisting with the creation and implementation of the Executive Master of Leadership graduate degree.

Prior to working for USC, Ana worked with AmeriCorps NCCC for seven years as a Corps Member and Team Leader (San Diego, CA, Western Region, 1999-2001), Service Learning Coordinator and Assistant Program Director for Training at the Pacific Region and consultant for the national office. Ana received her B.A. in Economics and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and studied abroad in Mexico, Spain and Brazil; and received her Master of Public Administration degree from USC. For over ten years, Ana, has worked in private and public sectors. Her passion is to work with individuals, teams, organizations and communities to create equitable environments where all people have the opportunity to thrive. Ana serves as a board member for the American Society for Public Administration Sacramento Chapter and for Wind Youth Services. She is also the AmeriCorps Alums Sacramento Chapter Leader.

Andy DavisMPA, is the current Vice Chair of the AmeriCorps Alums Advisory Council. He is the Director of Training for BoardSource, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing the public good by building exceptional nonprofit boards and inspiring board service. In this role, Andy is responsible for creating the public trainings that BoardSource delivers to the nonprofit sector across the country. This includes the construction and implementation of the online and live versions of the BoardSource Certificate of Nonprofit Board Education program as well as leadership certificate programs aimed at developing highly skilled nonprofit board chairs and executive directors. Andy also leads the team charged with creating, developing and delivering the BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer program. Andy brings considerable governance expertise to his role. Prior to joining BoardSource, he served as the professional development coordinator for Quality Enhancement for Non-Profit Organizations (QENO), a joint partnership between the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the City of Wilmington, and area nonprofits dedicated to increasing leadership knowledge and capacity in nonprofits throughout the region. Andy holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He served with AmeriCorps NCCC San Diego, Western Region, in 1999-2001.

Kevin N. Burke B.A., has been developing young leaders on a local and national level for over nineteen years. Kevin currently serves as the Deputy Region Director for Unit Leadership at the Corporation for National and Community Service. Previously, he worked as a FEMA Corps Unit Leader at the AmeriCorps NCCC campus in Vinton, IA. In the past, he also worked as a mental health specialist at the Child Therapeutic Day School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where he aided in the treatment of children with emotional and behavioral challenges. Prior to that, he served as the National Director of the AmeriCorps Education Awards Program at YouthBuild USA, overseeing a grant that enabled YouthBuild students to provide valuable services to their communities while earning money for their education. After leaving YouthBuild USA, he returned upon request to help lead the YouthBuild AmeriCorps Katrina Rebuilding Project, a start-up residential program in Gulfport, Mississippi that engaged YouthBuild graduates and students in the rebuilding of homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Kevin began his involvement in youth service in 1996 as an AmeriCorps member with the New Jersey Youth Corps, a program that provided mentoring and conflict intervention services to middle school and high school aged students. He served from 1996-1998. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University.

Diana Epstein Ph.D., is a senior research analyst for The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Before working with CNCS, Diana was a researcher at the American Institutes for Research, where she focused on K-12 education policy, program evaluation, and reforming school finance systems. Previously she worked on education research at the RAND Corporation, Abt Associates, and the Center for American Progress. She served for two years in the AmeriCorps NCCC program as a Corps Member and then a Team Leader at the Charleston, South Carolina campus from 2001-2003. She has been involved with AmeriCorps Alums since 2005, serving as a chapter leader in Los Angeles, a board member in Boston, and a member of the previous iteration of the National Leadership Council. She was also involved in the ServiceNation campaign as a Young Leader and a consultant, and she recently served as an Associate Board member at City Year DC. Diana has a B.S. from Brown, an MPP from UC Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the RAND graduate school. Her doctoral dissertation was an evaluation of the long-term impacts of AmeriCorps service on participants, utilizing both longitudinal survey data and in-depth interviews with AmeriCorps alums. In her free time she loves to hike, ski, and snowboard.

Nicole Gallant, MPA, currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Community Impact at United Way of New York City. Before joining United Way of New York City, Nicole Gallant was Senior Advisor for the Annie E Casey Foundation’s Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. She also served as Senior Education Advisor for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), where she created and oversaw the $350 million education strategy. Prior to her appointment at CNCS, Nicole was a Program Executive at The Atlantic Philanthropies, managing a $115 million domestic learning portfolio. She was also a fellow in the Children and Youth Program at the Hewlett Foundation and a business analyst and project manager for Knight Securities, a global trading firm based in New York. Nicole received her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Columbia University, and her research appears in the Journal of Negro History. From 1996-1999, Nicole served as a part-time AmeriCorps member at Community Impact, where she managed an award-winning America Reads program.

Seth Marbin, BA, Public and Private Sector Organizations, is a Program Manager on the GooglersGive Team. He helps encourage and enable Google employees to use their skills, talents and resources to have an impact on the world through service and philanthropy. He joined Google after five years in the social sector, as an AmeriCorps member three times, then as a founding staff member of City Year New Hampshire. He served with AmeriCorps as a Youth Volunteer Corps member (1995), AmeriCorps VISTA at the University of Puerto Rico (1998), and AmeriCorps Promise Fellow with City Year (1999). Seth is a First Movers Fellow with the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program and served on the steering committee of California Volunteers Business Partner Program. He founded and continues to lead Teampedia, a free, collaborative encyclopedia of team-building activities and ice breakers. He graduated from Brown University, where he studied the intersection of public and private sector organizations and social entrepreneurship. Seth lives in Alameda, California with his wife Jyothi, daughter Kaia and son Jahan.

Nathan Pelsma, M.B.A, has a background as a social entrepreneur, development professional, and finance and operations consultant. Nathan currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Teach Plus an adjunct professor teaching nonprofit management at the Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College. Previously, he worked in the private sector, where he was an economic consultant at Analysis Group in Boston. Prior to economic consulting, Nathan consulted on corporate development strategies for Unis-Cité, a national service organization in Paris, France. While earning his MBA at Boston College, Nathan conducted research on corporate volunteering and philanthropy at the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship. Prior to receiving his M.B.A., Nathan managed City Year’s national corporate partnerships with Timberland, Bank of America, and CSX. Nathan developed and grew Care Force, a revenue-generating community service model at City Year, to earning over $1 million annually. He served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Boston developing a Boston-based revenue-generating program at City Year (1999-2000). Nathan has also spent time as a teacher in an urban classroom and working for after school organizations such as Citizen Schools and BELL. Nathan received his B.A. from the University of Kansas and his M.B.A. from Boston College. He serves as an officer on the board of two Boston-area nonprofit organizations.
